Golden Jubilee Car Festival of Velankanni Church to Grace Chennai on August 29

Chennai`s Besant Nagar will witness the golden jubilee celebration of the Shrine Velankanni Church`s car festival on August 29th, starting at 5:45 p.m. The event will commence with the hoisting of the flag by a distinguished guest.
Rector and Parish Priest Vincent Chinnadurai anticipates an impressive turnout of around 300,000 devotees on this auspicious day. This year`s festival, dedicated to Arogyamatha, will include prayers for global peace and communal harmony, reflecting the diverse range of visitors from various faiths and communities.
The festivity will continue on September 7th, with the church car procession expected to draw a considerable crowd of devotees.
September 8th, the birthday of Mother Mary, will feature services in Tamil, English, Malayalam, and Hindi beginning at 2 a.m. In the evening at 6 p.m., a new gold-plated crown will be bestowed upon the idol of Mother Mary, coinciding with the lowering of the flag. This exquisite crown has been generously donated by a devoted follower, enhancing the significance of this special occasion.
