Due to ongoing track laying work on the 4th track between Egmore and Chennai Beach Stations, suburban electric train services between Chintadripet and Chennai Beach Stations have been temporarily suspended. This interruption is expected to last for a duration of 7 months.
To address this disruption, an additional 140 buses have been put into operation departing from Chintadripet Railway Station.
The project involving the installation of a 4-kilometer-long 4th track between Chennai Egmore and Chennai Beach Railway Stations comes at a cost of Rs. 280 Crores. The project activities are slated to commence within the next 1 or 2 days.
In light of this 4th track laying project, suburban electric train services between Chennai Beach and Chintadripet have been suspended since yesterday, which was Sunday, the 27th of August. Consequently, the flying train service, also known as the Mass Rapid Transport System (MRTS), will now be operational between Chintadripet and Velachery for the following 7 months.
As a result, trains traveling from Velachery to Chennai Beach Station have been halted at Chintadripet. This means that the MRTS services, which would typically initiate from Chennai Beach Station, have been reoriented to commence from Chintadripet Railway Station.
Normally, there are 122 daily services provided on the MRTS route from Chennai Beach to Velachery Station. However, due to the ongoing project work, the service frequency has been adjusted to 80 daily services since yesterday, the 27th of August.
