Recently, old buildings in localities like George Town and Perambur in Chennai collapsed and this grabbed the attention of many.

Now, Chennai Mayor Priya has ordered the civic officials to look out for the old and dilapidated buildings in the city as the monsoon season is fast approaching. The announcement from the Mayor has come at this point of time.

Information gathered is that the Chennai Mayor has instructed the officials to demolish the damaged buildings inside Chennai city limits. She also ordered the ward officials to monitor the old govt as well as private buildings.

It was brought to light by ward 107 councillor that a community hall has been in dilapidated condition and it might collapse any time. This would have been creating a huge fear of the residents now especially as the monsoon season is nearing. He added that before any accident occurred due to the damaged buildings the local authorities must demolish the building as soon as possible. The Chennai Corporation would have to accept the blame if any accident occurred and this was as per the Chennai Mayor.

To know about the old and damaged buildings within the Chennai limit, a survey was made and this was as per the Chennai Commissioner Mr. J. Radhakrishnan. He assured that the damaged old structures would be demolished before the NE monsoon season.

It is learnt that the ward councillors have raised complaints against the zonal officers regarding not draining out water logging in the monsoon season. Point is that the water stagnation remains for 2 to 3 days also.
