From October onwards, there would be two domestic terminals functioning in the airport in Chennai. As a result, crowding and bottlenecks would be reduced in the airport and the passengers would find it easier to travel during the peak hours. The presence of two domestic terminals would reduce congestion and queues for the passengers.
It is noteworthy that in July a new integrated terminal T2 was opened and international flight operations were shifted. As usual, the existing domestic terminal T1 would function. The international terminal T4 would become a second domestic terminal. It is well known that T4 was handling international flights until a few months ago.
Modification work of T4 terminal:
The work to modify the T4 terminal has been going on now and it will be over in another 2 weeks. This was brought out by some officers from AAI. Removal of immigration counters are being carried out now plus 3 conveyor belts are being moved T4. By operating two domestic terminals, the airport capacity would be increased and more passengers would be handled.
Clear signages to be available:
The T1 terminal would be used by IndiGo, SpiceJet, Akasa etc and the T4 terminal would be used by Air Vistara, Air India and Air Asia etc. All strategic points like entry/exit and service roads of the airport would have signages to help the passengers to clearly know the airlines that would operate from T1 and T4. From July itself, the officials have been planning to operate the 2 domestic terminals and it would become reality in October.
