There is a need to expand the weather monitoring network. As a result, IMD or Indian meteorological Department and VIT or Vellore Institute of Technology have joined hands together and have installed an automatic rain gauge system and an automatic weather station at VIT campus. It was inaugurated by vice-president of VIT Mr. Sekar Viswanathan.
Various important personalities who made their presence felt during the inauguration were VIT Chennai joint vice-chancellor Kanchana Bhaskaran, VIT Chancellor`s advisor Thiayagarajan, additional registrar Mr. Manoharan, Dean of CSE Mr. E.R. Mesonet scheme:
It is worthy to mention that Mesonet is an attempt to expand the urban monitoring weather network through the Mesonet project. Truth is that this new initiative would be of huge help for the meteorological research activities. To set up the monitoring work in VIT Chennai campus, scientist Meenakshi Nathan of UMD, professor Parvathy dept of CSE, Dr. Pattabiraman and Dr. Vijayalakshmi etc played their roles to perfection. By this weather network station at VIT campus now, opportunities have been created for the research students.
