As the Pongal festival approaches, travelers heading home can start booking express train tickets beginning tomorrow, September 13th.
The upcoming Pongal festival falls in January next year, with Bogi festival commencing on the 14th (Sunday), followed by Pongal on the 15th, Mattu Pongal on the 16th, and Kannu Pongal on the 17th. In anticipation of the festive rush, train ticket bookings will open tomorrow to facilitate the travel plans of those returning to their hometowns.
Indian Railways allows passengers to book tickets up to 120 days in advance. Consequently, those planning to travel on the 11th of January can make their bookings on September 14th, while those traveling on the 12th of January can book their tickets starting September 15th. This means that many are expected to embark on their journeys to their hometowns from the evening of January 12th, a Friday.
Railway officials have emphasized that with the 120-day advance booking option, individuals intending to celebrate Pongal can secure their tickets early. The authorities are also concentrating their efforts on operating special trains for Diwali and have decided to add one or two additional coaches to existing express trains to accommodate the surge in demand during the festive season.
