Here comes a superb piece of news for all the vehicle owners etc!!

The issue of bribes won`t be there at the Regional Transport offices or RTOs in Chennai and across the state of Tamil Nadu hereafter as the Tamil Nadu govt has proposed to open 47 automatic testing stations or ATS across TN. It is now revealed that the staff and agents won`t be able to take bribes at the RTO`s. The automatic testing stations would be able to issue FC or fitness certificates etc without any human intervention. These ATS would be coming up at MTC training school in Chromepet, IRT in Taramani and in govt bus depot in Ennore or in Tiruvottiyur etc. It must be taken into account that a fourth ATS might come up at the SETC depot behind its headquarters at Pallavan Salai in Park Town in Chennai.

Various testing that would be carried out are testing of braking systems, headlamps, battery, types, retro reflective tapes and speedometers etc.

Retest details:

It is brought out that if any vehicle fails the 3 tests like joint play, suspension and side slip etc then the RTOs would declare the vehicle unfit. In that case, the owners of the vehicles must apply for re-test within 30 days.

It was revealed by Mr. S Anbazhagan, Auto Drivers Welfare Association that every time they went to RTOs to renew their FC atleast Rs 500 per person was demanded by the agents. He added that if the money was not given to them then they would find reasons to fail the auto drivers in the test. It is superb to note that once the testing gets automated then there would not be any necessary to give bribes to the agents.

As the TN govt was not able to identify vacant lands for setting up of automatic testing stations, this multi crore project did not go to the next stage. Information is that now the TN govt has decided to use those vacant lands belonging to state transport corporations to set up testing stations.
