The highly anticipated inaugural run of the Vande Bharat Express train from Tirunelveli Junction is scheduled to depart around noon. While the general schedule for the train indicates a 6 am departure from Tirunelveli and an arrival in Chennai at 1.50 pm, there will be exceptions for Tuesdays. On all days except Tuesdays, the train is expected to leave the State capital at 2.50 pm and reach Tirunelveli at 10.40 pm.
During its journey spanning 652.49 km, the train is set to make stops at key stations including Virudhunagar, Madurai, Dindigul, Tiruchi, and potentially additional stops beyond Tiruchi. The train will maintain an average speed of 83.30 kph, providing a swift and efficient mode of transportation.
Ticket rates and sales details are forthcoming, with the possibility of increasing the number of coaches to accommodate demand.
In preparation for the commencement of this premium train service, Divisional Railway Manager for Madurai, Padmanabhan Ananth, reported that all necessary facilities have been readied. An inspection of the maintenance yard and related facilities at Tirunelveli Railway Junction has been completed, ensuring a smooth and efficient operation.
Regarding the proposed reconstruction of Tirunelveli Railway Junction, Mr. Ananth revealed that a consultant has been entrusted with designing a master plan outlining various facilities, including elevators, escalators, waiting areas, restrooms, and more. The project`s tender will be floated following the completion and approval of the master plan by the Railway Board. Mr. Ananth emphasized that the facelift of Tirunelveli station will commence after the ongoing redevelopment of Madurai and Rameswaram railway stations is concluded.
