Soon, the bus stops and bus terminals etc in Chennai would have passenger information displays that would help the passengers to know about the real time location of the MTC buses in Chennai. These displays would show the bus arrival time and bus departure time etc.
Under Chennai Intelligent Transport System or CITS funded by JICA or Japan International Cooperation Agency, passenger information displays would be installed in 71 bus terminals and in 532 bus stops in the City. It is learnt that the display of real time location of the MTC buses at bus stops and in bus terminals etc is a part of the passenger information system.
It is a known fact that GCC has already launched Chennai Bus App that would help the passengers to locate the MTC buses on a real time basis. This was according to an official from MTC. He added that the app has been used by about 4.26lakhs people every day. He concluded that the display about the arrival of the MTC buses on the screen at the bus stops and terminals etc would help the passengers. It is noteworthy that people who are not comfortable in using mobile phone applications would be benefited with the help of passenger information displays.
Appointment of system integrator:
It was later revealed by some sources belonging to MTC that the Chennai Smart City Ltd has appointed a system integrator for the project that would be carried out at a cost of Rs 136 crores. Information is that passenger information display and other components etc of CITS would be implemented soon.
