Chennai`s prestigious Anna University is set to introduce a new certificate course focused on patent essentials in response to the increasing significance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) in the country. Recognizing that IPRs have gained relevance across various sectors, the university aims to provide students and professionals with valuable insights and knowledge in this field.
A senior professor at the university highlighted the growing interest in IPRs among academicians, research scholars, students, entrepreneurs, businessmen, and start-ups. In response to this demand, the Centre for Intellectual Property Rights (CIPR) at Anna University, Chennai, has announced plans to conduct a `Certificate Course on Patent Essentials – 2023,` commencing from the next week.
The course is designed to cover fundamental aspects of IPRs, IP law, and best practices for IP filings in India. Participants will also receive hands-on training in patent search and drafting. The course will be led by seasoned practitioners and academicians with expertise in the field of IPRs.
The key objectives of the course include imparting a foundational understanding of IPRs and the Indian Patent Act and Rules, teaching best practices for drafting complete patent specifications for filing patent applications, offering training for individuals aspiring to become patent agents, and creating career opportunities for those interested in pursuing a career in intellectual property.
The course module will encompass a wide range of topics, including an overview of IPR, the interpretation of the Indian Patent Act 1970, IP filing procedures (both in India and internationally), patent search techniques utilizing both free and paid databases, patent drafting, and comprehensive case studies and analysis.
