Air-conditioned coaches to be introduced soon in Chennai Metro City suburban train services!

Information is gathered that air-conditioned coaches are shortly to be introduced in the Chennai Metro City suburban electric train services.
The different suburban electric train services in Chennai Metro City play a major role in linking the various locations in the sprawling growing Chennai Metro City.
Lakhs of regular commuters and passengers utilize these suburban electric train services to commute daily to schools, colleges and offices.
In the corridors between Chennai Beach to Tambaram, Chengalpattu, Velachery, Gummidippundi, and Thiruthani, more than 700 train services are operated daily.
The Southern Railway General Manager had earlier announced that the corridor Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) covering Chennai Beach to Velachery will be handed over to the Tamil Nadu State Government.
Further, the State Government of Tamil Nadu has also planned to renovate and modernize the Railway Stations in this MRTS corridor.
In this scenario, based on the recommendations of the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority, Southern Railway has planned to introduce 2 or 3 air-conditioned coaches in the Chennai Metro City Suburban Electric Train Services.
It is expected that the air-conditioned coaches will be added to the train within the next 6 months and a trial run will be undertaken.
Presently, suburban electric train services are in operation in areas where there is no Chennai Metro Rail Service. It will be a good comfort for the commuters/passengers who desire to travel in air-conditioned coaches.
It can also be expected that there would be a substantial increase in the number of passengers utilizing these public services.
