The inspection carried out by the AAI officials yesterday at the upcoming airport facility in Vellore has given huge hope now for many.
The good news is that the long delayed airport at Vellore would soon become a reality as the airport approval gathers pace now with the visit by the AAI team.
Yesterday, the upcoming facility at Vellore was buzzing with activities as 4 officers led by Mr. NV. Vijaykumar, AAI DGM (Security) of the southern regional office of the RCS or Regional Connectivity Scheme. They made their presence felt yesterday and inspected the security arrangements that are present here for the normal airport operations.
Air calibration exercises:
Few days back, for air calibration exercises, a 5 member team visited the airport here. Truth is that 3 members of the team were in the aircraft which made low level sorties many times around the airport. The remaining 2 members were involved in the related work on the ground.
In the newly constructed terminal here, the AAI team checked the scanners in the baggage area and in the areas earmarked for the VIPs etc. The CCTV cameras present at various areas in the airport were also checked by the team. The area where the airport security person would be posted was also inspected. This was brought out by some airport sources. It must be noted that about 40 TN police personnel have been earmarked for the airport as it was a small one.
Information gathered is that yesterday, the passenger personal frisking points were also identified with the officers discussing whether the current number of such points was adequate. Finally, the AAI team visited the perimeter fencing and runway and apron etc to assess the security requirements of each location. This was also highlighted by the sources.
