Torrential Rain Alert: Tamil Nadu Braces for 3 Days of Heavy Downpour

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy rain in Tamil Nadu, with more than 10 districts, including Madurai and Trichy, expected to experience heavy rainfall for three days starting today.

In a press release, the Director of the Chennai Meteorological Research Center, P. Senthamaraikannan, stated that due to a low atmospheric circulation prevailing over Tamil Nadu, both Tamil Nadu and Puducherry states may receive light to moderate rain in a few places from October 9th to the 11th, with the possibility of rain at a couple of places on the 12th. Light to moderate rain may continue at one or two places on the 13th and 14th.

Heavy rains have already been reported in various districts, including Coimbatore hilly areas, Nilgiris, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Salem, Namakkal, Trichy, Karur, Dindigul, Madurai, and Theni. These heavy rains are expected to persist on the 10th and 11th in most of the mentioned districts, except for Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Tirupur, and some other districts.

Chennai and its suburbs will remain partly cloudy over the next 48 hours, with the possibility of thunder, lightning, and light to moderate rain in some parts of the city. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 95 degrees Fahrenheit, while the minimum temperature is around 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Rainfall data for the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on the 8th (yesterday) revealed that the maximum rainfall was recorded at 10 cm in Egumalai, Madurai district, 6 cm in Paramakkudi, Ramanathapuram district, as well as at the Tobacco station in Dindigul district, Vedasandur, and Choolagiri in Krishnagiri district. Additionally, 5 cm of rainfall was reported in Beraiyur, Madurai district, Walaja, Ranipet district, and Ammundi, Vellore district.
