Now in a single day on Tuesday, many passengers have travelled in the trains in TN without processing a valid travel ticket. This has been revealed by the penalty amount collected from them. Through the intensive checking drives in the suburban and mail or express passenger trains etc to prevent ticketless travelling of the passengers, the SR or Southern Railways collected Rs 201.19 lakhs as penalty or fine amount. It must be noted that this amount is the highest ever amount collected as penalty on a single day in this year.
It was brought out by a statement from SR that on 12th October 2023 a team of 539 ticket checking staff on duty collected a huge amount of Rs 2019 lakhs as penalty from the ticketless passengers. Truth is that this is the highest ever penalty amount collected in a single day in 2023-24.
On 12th October alone, a total of 4404 cases of ticketless travel or irregular travel have been recorded and out of that as many as 1934 cases were registered as ticketless travel and an amount of Rs 10.25 lakhs as penalty has been collected from them. Information gathered is that 1832 cases were registered for travelling with irregular ticket and a penalty amount of Rs 8.41 lakh was collected. On that day, more than 615 cases of smoking and littering were also registered. This was mentioned by the statement issued by a zonal official belonging to SR.
