The airlines have increased the ticket fares now and as a result of that flying domestically have become very costly now. There is now a huge demand for air-tickets due to ICC World Cup matches plus travelling during the long weekends, Navratri and Diwali etc.
Until early December, airfares would remain high. It is noteworthy that for flying from Chennai to Mumbai more than Rs 6000 would be the airfare. In the same way, flying from Chennai to Delhi would cost Rs 6500 to Rs8000 for most of the days in November.
Until the end of November month, the one way air travel to Goa from Chennai would cost Rs 4000 to Rs 5700. When compared to the same period in 2022, the increase in the airfares now is in the range of 15% to 20%. This was pointed out by the travel and tour operators.
It is learnt that the movement of people between the cities in India to watch the world cup matches has reduced the number of seats in the flights now.
The number of people travelling in the coming months till January is high due to festival holidays. This was brought out by Mr. Arul Larzan of United Travels. He added that the ongoing world cup cricket matches have increased the crowd in the flights. Point is that airfares have become more and there are no berths in the trains. He hinted that nearly 60% of leisure travellers have booked their travel in advance to the tourist destinations.
