There has been a recent trend of increasing sales in electrically operated vehicles. Until September, 10.44 lakh electrically operated vehicles have been sold across the country. Out of these, 4.14 lakh electrically operated vehicles have been sold in the state of Tamil Nadu.
In response to this trend, the Department of Electricity of the State Government of Tamil Nadu has planned to set up power charging centers on the National Highways to facilitate the power charging of electrically operated vehicles. The plan is to set up electrical power charging centers at intervals of 25 kilometers. The Department of Electricity of the State Government of Tamil Nadu has undertaken the task of selecting locations on the National Highways for setting up these electrical power charging stations.
Officials from the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Company (TANGEDCO) stated, "The State Government of Tamil Nadu released the Electricity policies in the year 2019, which included the decision to set up electric power charging stations. In the first phase of this project, 100 locations have been selected for setting up electric power charging stations. These stations will not only provide electric power charging facilities but also offer services such as vehicle parking, access to drinking water, rest areas for drivers, and fire-fighting protection systems. The tender for this project will be floated shortly by the Department of Electricity of the State Government of Tamil Nadu."
