Today, the draft electoral roll for Tamil Nadu has been officially released, marking the commencement of the process for adding, deleting, and correcting names in the voter list.
The Election Commission of India conducts the annual revision of the electoral roll in September or October, with the final voter list slated for publication in January. Consequently, the electoral roll revision for this year has kicked off today.
In an important update, individuals who have turned 18 can now apply for inclusion in the electoral roll. The Election Commission has assured that they will be automatically enrolled and provided with voter ID cards upon reaching the age of 18. This process aligns with the annual final voter list publication in January.
Consequently, the draft voter list, reflecting the current status, is now available as the starting point for the electoral roll revision in Tamil Nadu. The district-level lists have been published by the respective district election authorities.
Voters can take direct action by applying to polling station officials or utilizing the Election Commission`s NVSP website to make additions, deletions, or corrections to the voter list starting today. Furthermore, special camps will be held at polling stations across Tamil Nadu on November 4, 5, 18, and 19 (on Saturdays and Sundays) to facilitate applications.
The process, including name additions and corrections, will continue until December 9. Based on these updates, the final voter list will be officially released on January 5, 2024.
