Extensive Bus Services Announced for Deepavali Travel in Tamil Nadu

State Express Transport Corporation and Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporations are gearing up to offer a robust transportation service to the public during the upcoming Deepavali festival.
After a comprehensive review of the preparations for this operation with senior officials from the transport corporations and the transport department at the secretariat, Transport Minister SS Sivasankar announced the details. Specifically, the plan includes running 10,975 buses, comprising both regular and special services, from Chennai to various parts of the state during the November 9-11 period. This initiative aims to accommodate the surge in travel demand during the festive season.
Transport Minister Sivasankar emphasized the comprehensive strategy, stating, "Along with the regular daily services of 2,100 buses from the city, we will operate 4,675 special buses from Chennai. Additionally, we will deploy 5,920 buses from other parts of the state for these three days." The cooperation of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) will involve the operation of special link buses, connecting the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) to other temporary bus termini from where the special buses will commence their journeys.
To ensure smooth passenger transitions, the minister shared additional information. He explained that fully reserved SETC buses departing from Koyambedu terminus would make their way to Kilambakkam temporary bus terminus via the Outer Ring Road. This route would cater to passengers who have booked tickets from Tambaram and Perungalathur. Sivasankar also advised private vehicle travelers to avoid the Tambaram and Perungalathur routes and, instead, opt for the Outer Ring Road via Vandalur or the OMR Thiruporur-Chengalpattu route.
In the digital age, the minister encouraged passengers to utilize online ticket booking facilities for convenience. Additionally, a round-the-clock control room for passenger assistance will be available at Koyambedu. Sivasankar warned against overcharging by omnibus operators and ensured that the authorities have put mechanisms in place to address such concerns. Post-Deepavali, the state is equally prepared to accommodate travelers returning from their festive celebrations. The transport corporations plan to operate 13,292 buses for the convenience of passengers traveling to Chennai and other destinations. This service will be available for three days, from November 13 to 15, ensuring that commuters can comfortably return to their respective locations.
