The Department of Electricity of the State Government of Tamil Nadu and TANGEDCO (Tamil Nadu Generation And Distribution Company) have issued a warning to the public, urging them not to believe fake SMS (Short Message Service) messages that falsely claim electricity will be disconnected due to unpaid bills.
These deceptive messages are being sent to electricity consumers from numbers that appear to be affiliated with the Department of Electricity.
When recipients open these messages and click on the provided links, unauthorized entities extract money from their bank accounts.
In response to this, TANGEDCO has released an official warning message. The message advises:
"If you receive an SMS stating that your electric power connection will be disconnected, please do not panic. Instead, visit the official TANGEDCO website and check the status of your payment receipts.
DO NOT attempt to contact the number from which the SMS was received.
For further assistance or to report such incidents, the public is encouraged to contact the toll-free number 1930."
This message serves as a reminder to exercise caution and verify the legitimacy of such messages before taking any action to prevent falling victim to fraudulent activities.
