Three steel pillars have already been erected as part of the project to link Velachery and St. Thomas Mount in the Mass Rapid Transit System Train Service (MRTS). The construction of three additional pillars on this link began yesterday, November 1st.
The plan was to extend the existing Mass Rapid Transit System from Chennai Beach to Velachery and further up to St. Thomas Mount. The project, which involves laying tracks on the overbridge connecting Velachery and St. Thomas Mount, covering a distance of 5 km, started in 2008.
During the course of the project, some issues were encountered in acquiring lands, but they have since been resolved. Subsequently, the project resumed and has been in full swing since last year.
The overhead railway track has been laid over a distance of 4.5 km with a total of 167 pillars. Along this link between Velachery and St. Thomas Mount, three MRTS stations have been planned - Puzhudhiwalkam, Adambakkam, and Vaanuvampettai. The construction of these stations has already been completed.
In light of this, the project activity to erect steel pillars to connect the overbridge track between Velachery and St. Thomas Mount commenced the day before yesterday, on October 31st.
