What do the residents say about the preparation of Tambaram Corporation for the floods in this monsoon?

The anxiety of the residents belonging to the Tambaram Corporation during monsoon season increases and this is mainly due to flooded streets, overflowing sewage etc.

This time around, the officials have sounded positively. They have mentioned that the Tambaram Corporation would be totally free from these above said issues.

Point is that the residents in Tambaram Corporation are unsatisfied now about the measures taken to control flooding. They have brought out that not much development has taken place here to control flooding.

It must not be forgotten that every year in the NE monsoon time most streets in places like Peerkankaranai, Selaiyur, irumbuliyur, Tambaram, Chitlapakkam, Pammal etc get flooded heavily.

The residents in these localities hoped that SWD and underground drainage facilities etc would be constructed after Tambaram Corporation was formed but it dint happen. One huge drawback here is the lack of infrastructure development. It must be taken into account that many places in Tambaram do not have proper drainage facilities. The bitter fact is that the situation is very bad in Selaiyur especially.

Leader of the opposition party in Tambaram Corporation Mr. Shankar expressed his views. He spoke about how no work was done regarding underground drainage facilities in Selaiyur in the last few years. The 1000 plus households belonging to Srinivasan Nagar, Maruthi Avenue, Ponniamman Street etc do not have drainage facilities. The point is that there are SWDs in the streets but they are blocked and even small rains would lead to water stagnation.

As per the residents from Chitlapakkam it was clear that the drainage systems present in places like Madambakkam, Kadaperi etc have been clogged for a long time. Even after the tender was released by the govt, the corporation has been delaying the construction works of SWD and road repairs etc. this was also brought to light by the residents.
