Nobody would have imagined even in their dreams that a batsman could score a double hundred just like the way Aussie batsman Glenn Maxwell did yesterday.
In the match between Australia and Afghanistan in Mumbai, Afghanistan made 291 for 5 in their allotted 50 overs. Afghanistan`s 21 year old opening batsman Ibrahim Zadran scored his first century in the world cup and it was a fabulous effort. It was also the first ever hundred by any Afghanistan batsman in world cup history.
The innings of the world cup came from 33 year old Glenn Maxwell. Coming at 6th position in the batting order, Maxwell tore the opposition apart with never before seen hitting. It must be noted that he batted with extreme pain and cramping in his legs etc. From the position of 91 for 7, Maxwell took Australia to victory target of 293 single handedly with brutal hitting. He smashed all the bowlers all over the ground for 10 sixes and 21 fours. He made a wonderful double hundred and turned many heads. He along with his captain pat Cummins who made 12 were involved in mammoth 202 runs partnership.
Glenn Maxwell created many records during his knock of 201 not out yesterday. He became the second fastest double century scorer after Ishan Kishan in the one-day history. He also became just the 3 batsmen ever to score double hundred in the world cups after Martin Guptill of New Zealand and Chris Gayle of West Indies. This was the highest ever score made by a batsman while chasing in the one day cricket format. It is well known that Glenn Maxwell scored the fastest hundred in the world cup history in just 40 balls versus Netherlands in Delhi some days back only and now this unbelievable effort from him. Stupendous Glenn Maxwell!!
