To improve the services during the NE monsoon season, Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC would be hiring doctors and nurses etc. By this, the number of public health employees would be increased. This week, GCC Commissioner Mr. J. Radhakrishnan took part in the meetings with some officials regarding this and inspected some primary health care centres PHC`s , urban community health centres or UCHCs and health and wellness centres or HWC`s etc.

In a few weeks, 13 medical officers, 50 staff and 122 auxiliary nurses would be hired. This was mentioned by Health Committee chairperson Santhakumari. She revealed that soon another batch of 45 specialists of 12 gynaecologists, 9 paediatricians, 14 general surgeons and one orthopaedician would be hired.

It is learnt that the councillors have been demanding the recruitment of permanent employees to the post of 143 medical officers, 59 staff nurses, 51pharmacists ad 95 sanitary officers etc. To tackle certain monsoon related civic issues, the residents have demanded public health services.

For better public health care services, GCC must appoint more doctors and nurses plus modernise the equipment and this was pointed out by a resident from Velachery. He threw light on how there was no facility from GCC to help the residents to get treated for snake bites etc as Pallikaranai marsh land was very close to their locality.

It was explained by the GCC Commissioner that there were about 140PHCs, 16UCHCs and 3 maternity facilities and one communicable hospital. They have all the facilities to treat monsoon related infections etc. He shed light on the presence of 140 HWC`s, govt medical college and peripheral hospitals etc that would treat monsoon related infections etc
