The state of Tamil Nadu has been receiving continuous rains from the last week onwards due to the onset of NE monsoons. The residents in Chennai have been facing a few issues due to the continuous rains now. The meteorological dept has confirmed that the rains would be there for a few more days. The rains have led to the rapid spreading of winter diseases like cold, cough and fever etc. The number of persons with viral infections is increasing not only in the govt hospitals but in the private hospitals also.
According to Dr. Vijayalakshmi, senior consultant of infectious diseases, normally during the monsoon seasons viral fever would be prevalent. She added that during rainy and winter seasons influenza virus would be more prevalent.
It must be taken into account that till 3 months back there were 5 types of virus spreading like influenza virus, RSV virus and metapneumovirus etc. Now, many viruses have been spreading rapidly. Those youngsters who get affected by the virus would have a cold and cough only. Persons with asthma issues, elderly persons and those with co-morbid conditions would get severely affected by the influenza virus.
It is learnt that the youngsters would have cough for about a month even after getting cured from the influenza virus. It would take 2 to 6 weeks to get fully cured and getting vaccinated would be important in this time. The doctors have asked the residents to be cautious when they go out.
Various precautions people need to take:
The doctors have advised the people to eat good nutritious foods, by heating the water and drinking it warm, eating only immunity rich foods, drinking water, not to self medicate while having cough etc.
