On Monday, 27th November, IMD or Indian meteorological Dept revealed that most parts belonging to Tamil Nadu including Chennai would get widespread rains in the first week of December. The reason for that would be due to the low pressure over the Andaman Sea that would intensify into a cyclone this week. In the next 2 days low pressure would bring light to moderate rains in Chennai.
According to Mr. P. Senthamarai Kannan, DDG, RMC, Chennai is likely to move north westwards and would strengthen into a depression on 29th of November. He hinted that in the subsequent 48 hours, it might intensify into a cyclonic storm over the south Bay of Bengal.
It was brought out by the famous weather blogger from Chennai Mr. Pradeep John that rains might reduce after one or two days when the system crosses the coast. Till the first week of January, the NE monsoon season might continue. It is known that yesterday Chennai received isolated short spells of rain. There were heavy rains in the night in few areas belonging to northern Chennai and in some core places in the city. Even in the neighbouring places like Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur a similar rain pattern was recorded.
