Travelling by the metro trains in Chennai has now become a comfortable option for the residents now especially after the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung. It is noteworthy that now there is a lack of other modes of transport like MTC buses and suburban trains etc in Chennai.
On all days, CMRL has resumed its operations from 5am in the city and yesterday the metro trains ran at frequencies of 7minutes and 15minutes. A passenger of a metro train spoke about how during the rains and floods metro trains have become the best and convenient option for the residents.
On Tuesday, about 900 MTC buses (30% of its total services) operated in Chennai. Inspite of less patronage the MTC buses operated in the city and transported the public to their destinations. This was mentioned by some MTC officers.
Point is that from Tuesday evening, Southern Railways or SR has resumed its services on all the sections. Information is that the normal operations of suburban trains would resume from Wednesday onwards on all the sections.
The waterlogging on the rails plus damage to railway infrastructure due to the cyclone have led to total or partial cancellation of many express trains connecting Chennai to Mysuru, Bengaluru, Coimbatore etc.
