Many parts of Chennai are still under the flood water caused by Cyclone Michaung. For safety reasons, about 4000 cubic feet of water has been released from the Chembarambakkam Lake yesterday. As a result, the Adyar River is overflowing now. It must be taken into account that near the Thiru Vi Ka Bridge in Adyar the overflowing river mixes with the sea through the estuary. The work on improving the traffic is being carried out now as the rains have stopped. Many residents stood on the bridge and watched the river overflowing under.
There are many flower shops near the bridge and a crack appeared suddenly. The residents were shocked to witness the crack and they immediately informed the government departments about that. Many officials were sent from various departments like GCC, CMWSSB and fire brigades etc here. They found out that a giant sewage pipe that was constructed near the Thiru Vi- Ka Bridge had developed a crack leading to a huge hole. Truth is that the overflowing sewage has resulted in the water entering into the shops here. Now, the officials are busy closing this huge hole here.
