Last week Cyclone Michaung was furious and it damaged Chennai and its neighbouring districts. The lives of the people were badly affected. Yesterday, a central team arrived in Chennai and they split up into 2 teams and inspected the cyclone affected areas in Chennai. Today, the team would be inspecting Chengalpet, Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts that were affected by Cyclone Michaung. After the inspections, the team would take part in discussion with the chief minister of TN.
It is noteworthy that the CM of Tamil Nadu Mr. MK. Stalin wrote to PM Mr. Narendra Modi asking him for Rs 5060 crores as interim relief for rains and floods. He had also asked the centre to send a team to inspect the flood affected areas. In this scenario, a six member team headed by Mr. Kunal Sathyarthy, adviser to National Disaster Management Authority was set up by the Union Home secretary to study the damage due to floods and rains etc.
Various important persons in the committee were Mr. Diman Singh, Mr. A.K. Shivhare, Mr. S. Vijayakumar, Bhavya Pandey, Ranganath Adam etc. The team arrived at Chennai from Delhi on 1th December. The members met Mr. Shivdas Meena , chief secretary, yesterday at 10:35am in the secretariat. A consultative meeting took place under the chairmanship of the chief secretary.
Other important personalities who took part in the meeting were Mr. J. Radhakrishnan, Mr. SK. Prabhakar, Mr. Rajesh Lakhani. Mr. Sandeep Saxena. Mr. Pradeep Yadav, Supriya Sahu, Mr. karthkeyan, Mr. Shankar Jiwal etc.
It must be noted that in the meeting the damage caused by cyclone Michaung and rescue operations in 4 districts including Chennai were shown with videos and pictures etc. After the meeting ended at 3:30pm in the evening, the 6 member team divided into 2 groups and one group under Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi went to south Chennai and the other group under Mr. Karthikeyan went to north Chennai.
Various localities in south Chennai the teams visited were Velachery, Madipakkam, Pallikaranai, Thoraipakkam, Okkiyam, Karapakkam, Kandigai, Kelambakkam, Mambakkam, Vandalur etc.
In the same way in north Chennai, various localities that teams visited were Pattalam, Pulianthope, Burma Nagar, Irular Colony,Manali, Sadayankuppam, Nadukuppam estuary places etc. It is brought out that today, 13th December the team would visit the affected areas of 6 taluks in Chengalpet dist, Kancheepuram dist and Thiruvallur dist.
