Ganesh Chaturthi was celebrated in a befitting manner throughout the nation on 9th of this month. Last year in Chennai, Ganesh idols were displayed in 1705 places. The police had permitted to keep the idols in the same place this year also. In some places, the displays come up without police permission.

In others, police allow people with political background and other influence to install idols. On the whole there are 1850 idols in Chennai and its suburbs. Prayers are being offered at these places. From today onwards these idols will be taken in a big procession and immersed in the sea.

Today’s procession will be conducted on behalf of Siva Shena. Tomorrow a big procession organised by Hindu Munnani will take place. Ramagopalan who is the organizer of Hindu Munnani will lead the procession. Hence heavy police personnel have been deployed.  Police will provide intensified security for the processions.
