The newly inaugurated KCBT or Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus at Kilambakkam in southern Chennai is amazing, sprawling and it has many amenities for the passengers.
The issue now is that the residents belonging to northern Chennai localities are finding it tough to reach this new bus stand to go to places in southern TN. These residents would have to travel a long time (by means of 2 buses or changing modes of transport etc) to reach this new bus terminus.
Truth is that the residents in southern Chennai are happy now regarding shifting of long distance bus operations. Travelling from CMBT in Koyambedu to Kilambakkam new terminus is a long exhausting journey. This was mentioned by a Coimbatore based resident who underwent treatment at RGGGH in Chennai.
On 31st December, SETC began operating its buses bound to southern districts & GST Road via Tindivanam from KCBT. After the Pongal festival, buses belonging to other 6 TNSTC would be shifting operations to the new bus terminus at Kilambakkam. The bitter fact is that many passengers were unaware of the shifting of bus services to the new bus terminus plus the new bus routes from MTC. From KCBT in Kilambakkam, there are buses to 30 destinations in Chennai and its suburbs but no buses to places like Tondiarpet, Thiruvottiyur, Ennore and Manali etc.
It was pointed out by a resident from Velachery that most buses that were operated by the MTC from the new bus terminus were deluxe fare buses. He added that the normal fare buses must also be operated by the MTC from the bus terminus.
It was later revealed by an official from MTC that the corporation operates about 4100 trips from Kilambakkam to several locations in Chennai. The MTC bus services would be improved based on the feedback and demand from the passengers.
