In a significant development, Health Minister Ma Subramanian inaugurated the state-of-the-art Cath lab facility at Kalaignar Super Speciality Hospital on Thursday. This advanced Cardiac Cath Lab, a first of its kind, has been established at a cost of Rs 6.74 crores. Minister Subramanian highlighted that the Cath lab is equipped to conduct various critical procedures, including Angiogram, stent implantation, pacemaker installation, valve replacement surgery, paediatric heart surgeries, and other cardiac interventions.
While acknowledging the existing Cath lab facilities in hospitals like Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Stanley Medical College and Hospital, Omandurar Government Hospital, and Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital, Minister Subramanian emphasized the need to extend such services to the residents of central parts of the city and suburban areas. The Kalaignar Super Speciality Hospital now becomes the 25th government hospital in the state to offer this essential facility.
The Health Minister also announced plans for the establishment of another Cath lab facility at Thiruvarur Government Hospital in the near future. This expansion aims to enhance access to critical cardiac care services for residents in different regions of the state.
