Onam celebrations: Leaders extend their greetings

Onam is being celebrated in a grand manner in Kerala today. Onam signifies the triumphant return of King Mahabali whose rule marked the golden era. Malayalees, in whichever part of the world they are, join millions of their counterparts back home in Kerala on this auspicious occasion. Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, DMK leader M Karunanidhi, Congress leader Gnanadesikan and other leaders belonging to various political parties have extended their Onam greetings to Malayalees living in Tamilnadu.

District Collectors of Chennai, Kanyakumari and Nilgris have declared holidays in Chennai, Kanyakumari and Nilgris on occasion of Onam festival. Schools and government offices will be closed.
