All Omni Bus Owners Association has fixed bus fares for the omni buses. Are the rules followed by the private bus operators strictly? The answer is No only.
For the Pongal festival, the omni buses have increased the fares. There are many people who would be going to their native places for this pongal festival and these people are finding it very difficult.
It must be taken into account that the transport minister Mr. SS. Shivasanka inspected CMBT to Kilambakkam bus terminus on Friday, 12th January. He directed the MTC to operate small buses free of bus fares from the entry gate of Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus on the GST Road to the bus terminus entry point for the sake of passengers.
A 5 day holiday has been provided to the educational institutions, government offices and private companies etc for the Pongal festival from 13th January to 17th January 2024. Many people have started going to their hometowns already. The fares of the omni buses have increased now due to the huge demand following the shifting of SETC buses to the newly opened Kilambakkam bus terminus.
It was brought to light by analysis of ticket prices at the online bus ticket selling portal that many bus operators have been selling tickets at fares more than the maximum fare fixed by the All Omni Bus Owners Association.
For an a/c sleeper berth for travel on Saturday from Chennai to Trichy, one of the private bus route operators charged Rs 3230 for a a/c sleeper berth. It must be noted that several other bus operators charged from Rs 2800 to Rs 2990 for sleeper berth. From Chennai to Madurai, omni buses now charge Rs 3230 for a single passenger in a/c sleeper and Rs 3840 from Chennai to Tirunelveli.
