How would you react if a famous personality comes to your house all of a sudden? Surprised and shocked right!!
This is what happened at Thiruvanmiyur yesterday. It is known to us that the festival of Bhogi would be celebrated across TN tomorrow, 14th January. Every year, on the bhogi festival day, lots of waste etc would be burnt by the residents. This would create air pollution.
On Friday, the GCC Commissioner Mr. J. Radhakrishnan spoke about how the issue of solid waste management can be resolved only when every resident takes the responsibility to clean the city.
Regarding handling the waste during the bhogi festival, the GCC Commissioner was busy yesterday in Thiruvanmiyur as he took part in the door-to-door campaign to create awareness.
The residents in their houses in seaward roads, 6th Street and Kuppam roads etc in Thiruvanmiyur were surprised to see the GCC Commissioner. He appealed to the residents not to burn the waste but to segregate the wastes. He spoke about the release of toxins in air when wastes like rubber, clothes, mats etc were burnt. He asked the residents to send less waste to the landfills.
