In anticipation of the upcoming Kaanum Pongal festival, the bustling Koyambedu vegetable market will remain closed on January 17th. The market, comprising over 1,200 vegetable shops and handling a daily influx of more than 3 thousand tons of vegetables, will observe a temporary halt. The closure, affecting around 5 thousand workers, has been announced by GD Rajasekaran, President of the Koyambedu Wholesale Market Complex Periyar Vegetable Shop Federation. Despite the vegetable market closure, the flower and fruit markets within the Koyambedu market complex are set to continue their operations on the specified date.
