Parcel office and ticket booking counter would be shifted in the famous Egmore railway station due to the ongoing renovation works.
One of the major railway stations across Tamil Nadu is Egmore railway station and this railway station is now making sensational news. It must be recalled that the southern railway administration has decided to renovate the century old Egmore railway station to world class standards.
In October 2022, the contract for renovation was awarded to a Hyderabad based private company to carry out renovation works at this railway station at a cost of Rs 734.91 cr. In February 2023, the renovation works was started at the railway station is known.
Foundation work:
It must be taken into account that in the first phase after the demolition of staffs and office quarters near Egmore railway station and removal of trees etc, the foundation work began here and is going on now in full swing. Various works that would be taken up now are construction of railway station buildings, multilevel parking facilities, construction of commercial complexes near Gandhi-Irwin Road, new parcel office, 72m departure centre, sitting area for passengers, flyover for walking , parcel handling flyover, new electrical substation, building of new railway quarters etc. Of these, few works have already started here.
Currently, the foundation work for Egmore railway station is underway at the place where railway quarters were located near the Gandhi-Irwin Road.
The officials belonging to Southern Railway have brought out that the renovation works of the Egmore railway stations has intensified now. They hinted that the works on the multi-level parking space and commercial buildings near Gandhi-Irwin Road near Poonamallee Road have been going on at full swing. They added that after digging up to several metres underground, the foundation was constructed with the help of wires.
Point to be noted is that many departments belonging to TN govt have given their full support now for the Egmore railway station to be renovated to world class standards.
