In preparation for the parliamentary elections scheduled for this year (2024), Satyaprata Sahoo, the Chief of the Tamil Nadu Election Commission, announced the release of the final voters` list today, Saturday, 22nd January, at the Chief Secretariats in Chennai Metro City.
Following this announcement, the final voters` list has been prominently displayed in all the District Collectors` Offices across Tamil Nadu. The Election Commission has also disclosed statistics concerning the total number of voters at the state level.
The annual correction of the Voters` List was carried out using the existing voters` list as the draft. The Draft Voters` List was initially released on October 27th of the previous year. A time extension was granted to the public for reviewing the displayed voters` list, making necessary corrections, and including names of new voters. The deadline for these activities was set for December 9th.
Additionally, special camps were conducted at polling booths in November, facilitating citizens in making corrections required for inclusion in the final list. Despite the initial announcement that the Final Voters` List would be released on January 5th, 2024, various extraneous factors, including the impact of the Michaung Cyclone, led to the postponement of the release date to January 22nd.
Consequently, the Final Voters` List was officially released today, Monday, 22nd January, with the respective Collectors of all districts unveiling the list in the presence of approved representatives from all political parties. This finalized voters` list will serve as the basis for the upcoming parliamentary elections, marking it as a crucial factor for all political parties involved.
