These days, travelling through ECR carriageway has become very difficult due to many women vendors encroaching to sell fish. The traffic congestion becomes worse on Sundays especially as large crowds around the fish vendors park their vehicles haphazardly here.
Information gathered is that GCC has been constructing a fish market for Rs 62.5lakhs (under south Chennai MP Fund) here to address this issue. There would be ground floor and first floor in the fish market and the built up area would be 20230ft. By this the long standing demand for the fish market would be met. This was as per a fish seller here.
Mr. Raju, assistant executive engineer of the Perungudi zone, GCC, spoke about how work orders have been issued and how the building would be inaugurated by April 2024.
Currently, the fish vendors are sitting on the road only and soon seats and stalls for these vendors would be available. In addition, fish waste disposal facilities would also be available in the new building. It is now mentioned that this move would expedite ECR expansion in Kottivakkam also.
It was confirmed by the Highways department that by April 2024 ECR would be expanded from 4lane into a 6 lane in Kottivakkam.
