The state government has made revisions in biomedical waste material collection charges. In the past five years, the rate was Rs 26 per kilogram. And now, it is revised to Rs 39 per kg. As a result, all hospitals will have to pay more for disposing all hazardous waste items. From 1st September, this increase in rate came to effect at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.
The Tamil Nadu Waste Management Limited has been in a tie-up with a private agency for safe collection and disposal of such materials right from the year 2008. Now, a memorandum of understanding is signed between the two.
