A new study by CMDA for CMA!!
To arrive at an open space strategy for the Chennai Metropolitan Area or CMA, the CMDA or Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority would conduct a study on open spaces (both natural as well as man-made). This would be as a part of preparing the Third Master Plan or TMP for Chennai.
It is learnt that the strategy would be expected to set forth a vision, lay down guiding principles etc. Information collected is that it would provide detailed recommendations for successful planning, design, implementation, operation and maintenance of open spaces. Input for TMP could be obtained from the strategy.
It was mentioned in the CMDA document that the study must holistically approach open spaces and treat them as interconnected networks to enhance urban sustainability. By this, the overall quality of urban life would get better.
Integrating open spaces and accessibility into transport networks to promote travel safety, enhance multi-modal mobility and addressing transit oriented development/TOD principles were also proposed by CMDA.
Private consultants would be conducting the study and open public spaces like parks, gardens, playgrounds, recreational grounds, coastal zones etc would be analysed by them. Natural areas like parks, mangroves, hills, reserve forests, water bodies like rivers, lakes, tanks etc would be considered for the study.
