Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has recently initiated the tendering process for the formulation of a Comprehensive Project Outline (CPO) concerning the establishment of Mass Rapid Transit Systems (MRTS) connecting Koyambedu to Avadi and Poonamallee to Parandur. The deadline for bid submissions for the Koyambedu to Avadi project is March 27, while the Poonamallee to Parandur project has a deadline of April 1.
In a significant development, CMRL submitted the Detailed Feasibility Report (DFR) to the government on September 20 of the previous year. The DFR suggests the extension of corridor 5, proposing a Metro Rail service from Koyambedu to Avadi via Thirumangalam and Mogappair. According to CMRL, the comprehensive feasibility study has outlined a Metro Rail route spanning 16.07 km with approximately 15 elevated stations. The estimated cost for this proposed project is around Rs 6,376.18 crore.
These endeavors mark a crucial step forward in enhancing Chennai`s public transportation infrastructure, and interested parties have until March 27 and April 1 to participate in the tender process for the respective projects.
