In a significant move, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has approved a resolution granting permission for the issuance of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewage Board (CMWSSB) for the establishment of a 10 MLD modular sewage treatment plant at Ayyasamy Street in Royapuram Zone (Zone 5).
The decision comes as the land owned by GCC, situated near the proposed plant, lacks sufficient space for the necessary equipment and heavy vehicles essential for the sewage treatment facility. Previously utilized for waste segregation, as requested by the metro water board, the site presently remains unused for such purposes.
Recognizing the urgency for the development of a 10 MLD capacity sewage treatment plant, GCC is set to provide Enter Upon Permission for approximately 1,699 square meters of land. This move is deemed crucial for the ongoing restoration efforts of the Cooum River and Adyar River under the ambit of the Chennai River Restoration Trust project. The approved plant is expected to play a pivotal role in supporting the restoration initiatives and addressing the wastewater management needs of the region.
