The construction work for the Madurai All India Institute of Medical; Sciences (AIIMS) Hospital at Thoppur, Madurai commenced today (Tuesday, 5th March) with `Vasstu` Poojas.
The Central Government of India had given the approval for the construction of the Madurai AIIMS hospital at Thoppur, Madurai covering an area of 221 acres.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the Foundation Stone for this construction in January 2024. The project cost is estimated at Rs. 1264 Crores.
The building will have 10 floors with basement and ground floor with a facility accommodating 870 beds for the patients.
It had been announced that 8u2% of the Project Fund will be allotted by JICA (Japan International Corporation Agency). The balance 18% of the project fund will be given by the Central Government.
The setting up of the compound for the building has already been completed.
In this scenario, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been given the contract for construction and it has commenced the construction of the building with Vastu Poojas.
It has been planned to complete the construction by 2026.
