Starting March 9, significant traffic changes will be in effect on Santhome High Road, particularly at the Karneeswarar Koil Street junction. These alterations are prompted by the upcoming construction work for the Light House Station, a project undertaken by the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL). The Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) has issued a notice detailing the modifications to ensure smooth traffic flow during the construction period.
Under the revised traffic plan, vehicles traveling from Gandhi Statue on Kamarajar Salai and bound for Santhome High Road will be rerouted at Light House junction. They will be directed towards Loop Road, leading to the Pattinambakkam bus terminus and the South Canal Bank Road junction, providing an alternative route to reach their intended destination.
Conversely, vehicles approaching the Karneeswarar Koil Street-Santhome High Road junction will be mandated to take a compulsory left turn, proceeding towards Light House. Notably, access from Karneeswarar Koil Street to the Papanasam Sivan Salai junction will be restricted during this period. Loop Road and a section of Santhome High Road will be designated as one-way streets for the next three months.
These traffic adjustments aim to facilitate the ongoing construction activities at the proposed Light House Station and are part of coordinated efforts by the GCTP to manage and regulate vehicular movement effectively. Commuters are advised to familiarize themselves with the altered routes and plan their journeys accordingly for the duration of the specified changes.
