Chennai Drinking Water Board has initiated an extensive underground sewerage project in Manali and Madhavaram mandals, costing Rs. 1,072.15 crore. Municipal Administration Minister K. N. Nehru laid the foundation stone for the project.
The project includes laying sewer pipes ranging from 250 mm to 750 mm in diameter and force pipes from 150 mm to 1000 mm in diameter, covering a length of 30.57 km in Vadaperumbakkam, Thiyambakkam, Mathur, and Puzhal areas. It will involve the construction of 7,087 mechanical inlets, 10 pumping stations, and 11 auxiliary sewage pumping stations. Additionally, 15.77 million liters of sewage per day will be transported to the Kodungaiyur Sewage Treatment Plant for treatment.
This initiative will benefit 1,30,353 people by providing 18,581 household sewerage connections across 1,004 streets. Furthermore, sewer pipes ranging from 200 mm to 600 mm in diameter and force pipes from 250 mm to 1000 mm in diameter will be laid across 20.44 km of missing streets in Madhavaram areas.
Under this part of the scheme, 3,914 mechanical inlets, 3 pumping stations, and 6 auxiliary sewage pumping stations will be constructed. It is estimated to transport 13.56 million liters of sewage per day to the Kodungaiyur Sewage Treatment Plant, benefitting 1,18,065 people with 21,787 household sewage connections, according to officials.
