Every day, RGGGH that has 2500 beds receives 10000 to 15000 out patients and it is one of the most important hospitals in Chennai.
Just 3 months back only the foundation stone was laid at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital or RGGGH in Chennai for constructing a new neurology block. Now, it has been revealed that the work has been nearing completion and the new block would be opened.
Information collected is that this new building in RGGGH has been built at a cost of Rs 65 crores and it has state-of-the- art-facilities. On 10th of February 2024, health minister Mr. M. Subramanian laid the foundation stone here for a 4 storey 112247 sq ft neurology block.
It is known that the older facility was damaged by fire in 2023. In the tower 3 of RGGGH, the patients were accommodated as the old building was rendered unfit for use. Earlier in 2024, PWD began the construction of a new block. It is known that the construction of a new block was announced in the Assembly by the health minister in 2023.
It is noteworthy that the ground floor of the new block has neurology outpatient dept, neurosurgery inpatient dept, radiology dept etc. Point is that the first and second floors have general wards for men and women. On the third floor are present ICU`s. There are 6 operation theatres on the fourth floor and these have recovery rooms and pre-operation room facilities etc. There are superb toilet facilities for the differently able persons plus 4 elevators and 2 staircases etc on all the floors in this new building.
Various other superb facilities that are present in this new neurology building are ramp, medical liquid oxygen connection, fire safety equipment etc.
