On May 23rd, the Nilgiris Mountain Railway (NMR) service between Mettupalayam and Ooty has been suspended due to landslides occurring between Kallar and Hillgrove railway stations. The Southern Railway (SR) issued a statement citing mud and boulders obstructing the rail line as the cause of the disruption.
Consequently, Train No. 06136 departing from Mettupalayam at 7:10 a.m. has been cancelled for the entire month of May. Similarly, Train No. 06137 departing from Udagamandalam at 2:00 p.m. on Thursdays has also been cancelled until further notice.
Passengers booked on these cancelled trains are eligible for a full refund of their ticket fare. Railway personnel are actively engaged in clearing the debris and restoring the railway tracks. Engineering works are underway to ensure the prompt resumption of train services, as per the SR release.
