Chennai Suspends Parking Fees at Beaches and On-Street Areas
The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has temporarily suspended vehicle parking fees at beaches and on-street parking areas until a new contractor is appointed. This decision follows the end of the previous contractor`s tender period on March 31, and a police FIR filed against the agency for illegally collecting parking fees at Marina Beach post-contract.
A senior official confirmed the termination of parking charges citywide, including at Marina Beach, Pondy Bazaar, and Anna Nagar. The special project department will soon prepare and award a new tender for vehicle parking fees, which will then be managed by the revenue department. Meanwhile, residents have reported instances of private agencies overcharging and exhibiting rude behavior, highlighting the need for stricter regulation and enforcement.
