Minister Anbil Mahesh Poiyamozhi unveiled a series of transformative measures for the School Education Department during yesterday`s Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly session:
1. Government high and higher secondary schools will receive upgraded hi-tech labs, focusing initially on schools with over 1,000 students. This Rs. 58 crore initiative, commencing from the 2024-25 academic year, aims to bolster computer technology and coding skills training.
2. The Diamond Jubilee of The Bharat Scouts and Guides will be celebrated with a dedicated Rs. 10 crore allocation. An additional Rs. 2.32 crore will fund Climate Change Environmental Protection Education efforts.
3. Students in classes 6 to 9 will be introduced to fundamental computer science and artificial intelligence skills.
4. Government-aided schools will benefit from Rs. 42 crore for advanced hi-tech laboratories. A new Mechanical Laboratory (Robotic Lab), costing Rs. 15.43 crore, will also be established.
5. Art festivals will now include participation from students in classes 1 to 5 across all government and government-aided schools.
6. The government will support educational expenses for students from government schools attending top higher education institutions in India. It will also cover travel expenses for students securing scholarships to study abroad, with an annual allocation of Rs. 6 crore.
7. Teacher education and training institutes in Trichy, Madurai, Erode, Pudukottai, Salem, and Tirunelveli will be upgraded to Thagaisal institutes, supported by a Rs. 41.63 crore investment. An additional Rs. 3.15 crore will be dedicated to skill development training for teachers.
8. The Tuticorin District Central Library will undergo construction of a new Rs. 6 crore building. Furthermore, a children`s science park at the Anna Centenary Library, equipped with scientific tools, will receive Rs. 80.24 lakhs to enrich scientific learning experiences for young visitors.
9. Recognition awards totaling Rs. 1.14 lakh will be presented to 25 private libraries.
These initiatives are designed to modernize educational infrastructure, elevate teaching standards, and foster scientific curiosity among students throughout Tamil Nadu.
