The Greater Chennai Corporation is set to undertake extensive roadworks in preparation for the Indian Racing Festival at the Chennai Formula Racing Circuit, following a request from the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu. The city has sought an additional Rs 8.25 crore from the State government to re-lay roads on Island Grounds, after last year`s event was canceled due to rain.
The Corporation plans to call for new tenders for 18 proposed works, including profile correction and tar overlaying of a 3.5-km stretch as per FIA guidelines. Utility pipes for electrical and OFC cables will be installed across the track, and median removal and traffic signals will be adjusted according to demolition plans.
Track development will follow specific designs within Island Grounds, including the construction of pavement for pit garages, paddocks, service pits, a media center, and VIP lounge access areas.
These enhancements aim to ensure the successful hosting of the racing event.
